How Pricing Works

Pricing for guided birding services varies by state, service type, and outing length. Because American Birding Guides works with experienced local guides across the country, rates reflect regional costs, guide availability, and the structure of each outing. Exact pricing is always confirmed before booking, with no surprises.

Private & Multi-day Trips

Private tours and multi-day trips are priced individually based on scope, logistics, and level of customization. These are planned collaboratively to match your goals and preferred travel style.

Additional Fees & Add-ons

Some outings involve additional considerations based on logistics, group size, or time in the field. These fees apply only in specific situations, are discussed in advance, and are included here so you know exactly what to expect.

MEETING LOCATION

A flat meeting location fee may apply based on the average travel time to and from the meeting location. This typically applies when your guide is traveling a significant distance and does not apply if the guide is already local to the meeting area (generally within about 30 minutes).

When applicable, meeting location fees typically range from $12 to $72, depending on travel time and location. This fee is paid directly to the guide and reflects standard industry practice for compensating travel time and related expenses.

Transportation Fee

Clients typically arrange their own transportation. In some cases, guide-provided transportation may be available upon request or when logistics make it the most practical option for the outing.

When a guide provides transportation, a flat daily transportation fee applies to cover vehicle use, fuel, and travel associated with the service. This fee generally ranges from $50 to $150 per day, depending on location, service length, and typical driving distances, and is confirmed in advance during planning.

Extended Time

Standard service durations include quarter days (2–4 hours), half days (5–7 hours), full days (8–10 hours), and owling sessions (2–3 hours).

When availability allows, outings may be extended in the field if you and your guide agree it makes sense. Full days and owling sessions can be extended for an additional fee of $50 per hour, and shorter outings may be upgraded to a longer service. Any extension or upgrade is confirmed at the time and billed accordingly.

Adding Participant

Base rates include one or two participants. For small groups of three to five, an additional fee of $50 per person per day applies. For larger groups of six to twelve, a reduced group rate of $25 per person per day applies.

This structure allows groups to bird together while maintaining a high-quality, personalized experience in the field.

Photography Fee

Many of our guides are skilled photographers and may capture images during your outing. For a flat fee of $60, a curated selection of these photos will be shared with you via email on the day of your outing or shortly thereafter.
