At American Birding Guides, we aim to make planning your birding experience straightforward and stress-free. Below you’ll find answers to common questions about bookings, logistics, and what to expect in the field. Yes. A 50% deposit is required to confirm your booking and secure your guide. Until your deposit is received, your dates remain provisional and may be released to other inquiries.
Remaining balances are due one month before your start date. For bookings made within one month, full payment is required at the time of booking.
If you cancel 31 or more days before your start date, 50% of your deposit is refunded. Cancellations 15 to 30 days before retain the deposit, and cancellations 14 days or fewer before the start date are non-refundable.
If you need to reschedule, we’ll do our best to accommodate you. In many cases, payments can carry forward to new dates, subject to guide availability. Please review our Policies page for full details on rescheduling and credit.
Our guides plan around weather whenever possible and will adjust timing, locations, or itineraries to ensure a safe and productive day.
If conditions are severe enough to make birding unsafe or impractical, we’ll work with you to reschedule or apply payments toward a future booking, in accordance with our Weather and Rescheduling policies.
Yes. Every participant must sign a liability waiver before any outing begins. You’ll receive a secure digital waiver link once your booking is confirmed, and each member of your party must complete it individually.
Yes. Once your booking is confirmed, we’ll connect you with your guide to finalize meeting details and goals for your outing.

Gratuity is never required but always appreciated. Typical gratuities range from 10 to 20% of the total booking cost, based on your satisfaction, the length of your booking, and whether transportation was provided.
Yes. While not required, travel insurance can help protect against unforeseen disruptions such as illness, flight delays, or extreme weather.

Each region offers a range of lodging options, from familiar hotels and resorts to birder-friendly lodges, cabins, and B&Bs set in nature. Many guests choose accommodations near key hotspots for convenience and early-morning access.

Meals are handled informally based on the itinerary and your preferences. Breakfast and lunch are often quick or on-the-go between birding locations, while dinner is typically a chance to relax and enjoy local restaurants.
Meals are not included unless otherwise arranged, and your guide can recommend casual or regional favorites in each area.
Bring your usual birding essentials, including binoculars, comfortable layered clothing, water, snacks, sunscreen, and sturdy footwear.
A spotting scope, camera, or field guide can also be helpful but are entirely optional.
Long pants and sleeves are recommended for comfort and protection.

Most bookings are meet-on-site, meaning guests provide their own transportation to the meeting location.
