Growing up in the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, Walker developed a lifelong love for both the outdoors and the birds that inhabit it. As a member of the Blue Ridge Young Birders Club, he not only sharpened his identification skills but also gained early guiding experience by leading field trips for both the club and the Piedmont Virginia Bird Club.
Walker carried his passion to Virginia Tech, where he majored in Environmental Conservation & Society and became an active member of the Virginia Tech Bird Club. Over the years, he has recorded more than 300 species in Virginia, with a particular focus on the birdlife of the state’s central and southwestern regions.
Since graduating, Walker has deepened his expertise through professional fieldwork, most recently serving as a technician for the North Carolina Breeding Bird Atlas Program in the Mountains Region. Whether exploring lush river valleys or rugged Appalachian ridges, Walker brings a thoughtful, knowledgeable approach to every outing and loves helping others connect with the landscapes and birdlife of Virginia and the greater Southeast.
