About Seth Owens

Seth Owens is a lifelong North Dakotan who spends nearly every free moment behind the camera, chasing wildlife across the country. His birding obsession grew from an outdoor-centered upbringing and his training as a wildlife biologist, eventually evolving into a deep passion for documenting the species that define the northern Great Plains.

If it has fur or feathers, Seth is interested—but his true addictions are photographing grouse, waterfowl, and the rare and elusive species that call the region home. His work has appeared in multiple magazines and publications, and he holds a remarkable accomplishment: he is the youngest person ever to photograph all five species of Prairie Grouse.

Seth is also a dedicated educator. He teaches Hunter’s Safety, coaches high school wrestling, and leads habitat and pollinator education events, as well as biology-focused field trips for local schools. As a guide, he looks forward to sharing his skills, field experience, and passion for the natural world with others.

Reviews

“Seth was our guide for our Baird’s sparrow target, but he also shared his wealth of knowledge of North Dakota prairie pothole ecology. We traveled to sloughs, fields, ponds, and lakes in search of prairie birds. We had an outstanding experience with him, and we ended up having great looks at 6 Baird’s sparrows as well as other prairie birds.” – Dow L.

“Seth was our birding guide in North Dakota for the day. He did a fantastic job! All our communications with him, before, during, and after the birding tour were great! We had a target list of 7 birds and we heard and saw all 7 during the one day with him! We also heard and saw many other birds. Great job! Highly recommended!” – Robin G.
