About Nathaniel Child

Nathaniel is a Maine-based wildlife and nature photographer whose passion for birds began at a very young age. An early interest in the natural world led to a fascination with the birds that frequented the ponds and streams around his home. This growing love of wildlife inspired him to pursue a degree in Fish and Wildlife Sciences from Paul Smith’s College.

Throughout college, he embraced his inner bird nerd by joining owling and birding trips, assisting with a raptor banding project, and completing a senior capstone on Northern Goshawk nest site selection. His field experience includes highlights such as studying Rusty Blackbirds in Alaska and monitoring California Spotted Owls in northern California. Traveling and birding across the country also gave him an appreciation for the remarkable diversity of bird life North America has to offer.

Since moving to Maine, Nathaniel has immersed himself in the natural world around him, learning as much as he can about local birds and the ecosystems they inhabit. Nature photography has provided a platform for him to share the natural world with others through presentations and photography workshops. The most rewarding aspect of this work is witnessing people’s delight as they experience the wonder of an exciting wildlife encounter.

Nathaniel recently became a Registered Maine Guide and is excited for the opportunity to introduce people to the local birds he has come to know so well.
