Jonathan grew up birding throughout Maryland’s Eastern Shore, primarily in Queen Anne’s County, which he calls home. He has developed extensive knowledge of birds and migration through countless days in the field. His interest in birding and conservation was sparked in 2012 when he joined the Youth Maryland Ornithological Society. This organization played a formative role in shaping his passion for birds and opened the door to numerous opportunities in ornithology with nonprofit organizations, colleges, and government agencies.
In the fall of 2022, Jonathan served as the Maryland Biodiversity Project’s morning flight counter at Turkey Point in Cecil County, Maryland. In the spring of 2023, he worked at Foreman’s Branch Bird Observatory, a migratory bird banding station operated by Washington College in Chestertown. For three summers, he surveyed remote areas of the Eastern Shore for Maryland’s third Breeding Bird Atlas in collaboration with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
He is currently a senior pursuing an undergraduate degree in Earth Science at Salisbury University.
