Jacob began birding at the age of twelve and was quickly captivated by the diversity of species around him. Since then, he has been deeply involved in his local birding community. Throughout high school and college, he worked as a naturalist at a local nature preserve, where he regularly shared his passion for birds with visitors. He also spent a summer as a stewardship technician with a local land trust, gaining firsthand experience with the birds and wildlife inhabiting protected lands across northern Michigan.
Jacob earned a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies and International Politics in 2024. During college, he researched the intersection of global sociopolitical systems and natural ecosystems, highlighting how birding and ecotourism can act as catalysts for conservation. Now as a birding guide, Jacob hopes to inspire a similar passion for birds and their protection by providing meaningful, memorable experiences in nature.
Jacob has birded extensively throughout the Rocky Mountains, Arizona, the Pacific Northwest, and—most recently—Texas and the southern Great Plains while working as an avian field technician. When not traveling, he still calls northern Michigan home. His deep familiarity with the northern Lower Peninsula and eastern Upper Peninsula—developed over more than a decade—gives him a strong understanding of reliable locations for many of the state’s most sought-after species.
