About Caleb Persia

Caleb is a lifelong naturalist-turned-birder, born in Texas and raised in Louisiana. As a child, he spent his days wading through the swamps of northwest Louisiana, collecting insects and plants. He was especially captivated by the owls and woodpeckers of the Red River bottomland forests. One of his earliest memories is lying under the stars, listening to recently fledged Great Horned Owls calling from his backyard.

In college, Caleb studied fine art, design, and photography, with much of his work centered on the natural world. From illustrations of Great Blue Herons and Barred Owls to macro photographs of mushrooms and plants, his creative practice always circled back to nature. Even his class notes were filled with botanical sketches. For his senior project, he and a group of classmates produced a puppet show celebrating the joy of exploring the outdoors—and yes, a bird made it into the cast.

Today, Caleb focuses on avian conservation in northwest Louisiana. You can find him installing nest boxes, participating in Christmas Bird Counts, leading bird walks, and building community among local birders. For him, guiding is about helping others experience that first spark—when the world quiets down just enough for someone to truly hear the birds around them.

Reviews

“My husband and I did a full day trip around New Orleans with Caleb. He was a great birding guide and got us more than 10 lifers. He had prepared and knew where to search for the birds we were looking for and included several different habitats. His identification skills by sound and sight were incredible. He was also very informative about flora, dragonflies, butterflies, etc. He took a fabulous photo of a Barred Owl that we saw and then shared the photo with us. We had a fantastic time and would highly recommend Caleb.” – Holly K
