About Alex Patia

Alex was born and raised in Springfield, Illinois, where his obsession with birds began at age nine after watching a Great Horned Owl being mobbed by crows. His passion for sharing wildlife with others led him to earn a master’s degree in Environmental Education in 2013. Since then, he has worked in seven states, including leading puffin cruises in Maine, serving as a naturalist in all three of Washington’s national parks, guiding whale-watching trips in the Puget Sound, leading overnight trips to Santa Cruz Island, handling raptors at the New Mexico Wildlife Center, and working as a wildlife guide in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Although he has birded in all 50 states, Arizona has been his favorite nearly every year since he first visited in 2011. He is excited to now call Arizona home and share its remarkable wildlife and landscapes with visitors.

Alex also shares his passion for birds as the Sweetwater Wetlands Coordinator for Tucson Bird Alliance. He has participated in numerous Christmas Bird Counts, bird surveys, and banding stations, and previously served as the eBird Regional Reviewer for Teton and Park Counties in Wyoming.
