Blake Halbert is a wildlife biologist with a special interest in birds and herpetofauna. He became a dedicated birder during his early college years and has been passionate about it ever since. Blake has worked as a field biologist conducting point counts, migration surveys, and eagle nesting surveys. Most of his birding experience is in the Southeast, where he has developed a particular interest in migrating songbirds, elusive wading birds, and raptors. He has also spent time in the Rocky Mountains, gaining experience with upland and high-elevation montane species.
When he’s not in the field, Blake volunteers with the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine’s Raptor Rehabilitation team, assisting with the husbandry of resident and rehabilitating raptors, including flight conditioning and glove training. He is also deeply interested in the ecological roles and habitat use of different species.
As part of American Birding Guides, Blake’s goal is to share his enthusiasm for the world of birds and create engaging, memorable experiences for every birder he guides.
