Eryn is originally from Ithaca, New York, where she developed a deep interest in birds through the area’s vibrant local birding community. A lifelong nature lover, she spent her childhood wandering the woods, trying to get as close to wildlife as possible. She quickly came to appreciate how birds bring people together from all walks of life, creating opportunities to explore the outdoors and visit places she never imagined.
After recently graduating from Cornell University, Eryn moved to Baton Rouge to pursue her passion for ornithology at Louisiana State University. From wide-open rice fields to the stately live oaks draped in Spanish moss, Louisiana offers a completely new birding landscape—one she is eager to explore. She is especially excited to regularly observe species she has long admired from afar, such as Mississippi Kites and the Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks that frequent the LSU campus.
Eryn currently works as the Genetic Resources Collection Manager at the LSU Museum of Natural Science. In her free time, she volunteers at banding stations around Baton Rouge and assists with winter rail surveys. She is enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge and passion for birds with others, and looks forward to helping visitors experience the unique birdlife of the Gulf Coast.
