About Kadynn Hatfield

Raised in Iowa, Kadynn began birding at age 14 when he became hooked on distinguishing Lincoln’s and Song Sparrows. He soon found himself attending young birder camps, bird club meetings, and banding programs, and began sharing his enthusiasm by leading bird walks and giving presentations to school groups throughout high school. In pursuit of seeing birds on their breeding grounds, during migration, and on their wintering territories, Kadynn has traveled widely throughout the United States, Costa Rica, and Belize. He now calls Arizona home and relishes its diverse birdlife, shaped by the state’s wide range of elevations, climates, and habitats. He loves helping others reach their birding goals and deepen their appreciation for the avian world.

Kadynn is an eBird state reviewer for Iowa, has worked seven years with captive waterfowl and game birds, and has volunteered as a hawkwatcher. He has participated in numerous Christmas Bird Counts and spent a season guiding for Sandhill Cranes along the Platte River.

Reviews

“I came out to Southeastern AZ for a very brief birding trip and did a full day of birding + owling with Kadynn. I could not be more grateful for his immense knowledge and expertise, not only of the birds, but also the other fauna and flora of this beautiful environment! It was my first time birding AZ and I easily saw >30 lifers, including a very special sighting of a Five-Striped Sparrow. I would not hesitate to use American Birding Guides again on my future travels!” – Eliana S

“Birding with Kadynn was AMAZING! He is one of the best birding guides I have ever been with. Kadynn was not only a great birder but also quite helpful with finding good camera positions since I was shooting with a 300Prime lens. Kadynn is sweet, informative, patient, and has quite the ear and eye to find absolutely whatever bird you want to see, given they are present for the time of year, Also, he is a very interesting person!” – Kim H

“My brother and I had the best time birdwatching with Kadynn in multiple areas south of Tucson on 6/17/25! He was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the local birds. He was able to point out all sorts of their calls/songs and imitate them so we learned a lot about sound ID, which helped us a ton for the rest of our trip without a guide. He was also very good at pointing out specific locations up in trees and bushes where birds were perched, allowing us to see them. Without him there to guide us, I don’t think we would’ve had nearly as many birds on our life list as we did! We even got our biggest lifer of the trip with him: the elegant trogon! Birding with Kadynn was 100% worth the time and money and it left us with an unforgettable birding experience! I would definitely recommend him as a birding guide, and ABG in general. Shoutout to Felipe for helping us get booked and setting us up with Kadynn too!” Esperanza

“My wife and I planned our first trip for birding in Southeast Arizona. We were connected with Kadynn Hatfield as our guide after reaching out to Arizona Birding Guides. The entire process went very smoothly. Kadynn was an amazing guide and an all-around pleasant person to spend a couple of days with. He helped us find all of our target birds. I plan to use this outfit again in the future.” – User

“Excellent two day birding guide with Kadynn in Rio Grande Valley and South Padre Island. Kadynn planned the route, expertly aided discovery & identification, and was great company throughout. Highly recommended.” – Mark I
