Pete is an avid outdoorsman who grew up in the heart of North Dakota’s prairie pothole region and has always enjoyed spending as much time immersed in nature as possible. As a child growing up on his family’s farm, he would often leave the house early in the day to explore the surrounding wetlands and grasslands and not return until after dark. As Pete grew older, he became curious to learn about the regularly occurring flora and fauna of his surroundings. This curiosity led him to study natural resources at a college in Ely, Minnesota, where he deepened his understanding of the prairies of North Dakota while also discovering a second home in the northern forests of Minnesota.
Sharing his passion with others is Pete’s favorite part of birding. He has a talent for turning any outing into a memorable and educational experience. Pete balances expertise with approachability and ensures that anyone who spends a day with him walks away having learned something new about bird behavior, birding techniques, or ecology.
Pete spends most of his free time birding in North Dakota and northern Minnesota. He is also an active participant in the North Dakota Birding Society.
