Kianna has lived in central Texas for more than 20 years, where she discovered her passion for birding while attending Texas State University. She has always been full of admiration and curiosity for the natural world, but it wasn’t until she met influential mentors in college that her love of birds truly took shape—both as a profession and as a deeply fulfilling hobby. Since then, she has spent countless hours watching and photographing birds throughout Texas, while simultaneously building a career that allows her to work with birds across the country.
For several years, Kianna has worked in seasonal avian field positions, gaining extensive experience in bird banding, nest searching, and data collection for sensitive species. These roles require exceptional identification skills, strong field intuition, and a careful, methodical approach to working with wildlife. Through her fieldwork, she has participated in and co-led numerous Christmas Bird Counts, led outreach bird walks, and contributed to community engagement efforts centered on conservation and bird education. She is now focused on pursuing an advanced degree with a research concentration in avian ecology.
Kianna is passionate about sharing the joy of birding with others and helping new birders feel welcomed, supported, and excited to learn. While she holds a deep affection for Texas and its birdlife, she also hopes to expand her horizons and guide in additional regions in the future.
