Born and raised in Florida, Avery began birding in 2010 and has since traveled extensively throughout the state in search of its diverse birdlife. His curiosity has taken him not only to well-known hotspots but also to many of Florida’s underbirded and lesser-visited counties. These explorations have deepened his appreciation for the state’s unique mix of habitats and species.
Avery is especially fascinated by Florida’s introduced birds—particularly parrots and parakeets—and how they interact with and adapt to unfamiliar environments. He hopes to help document their populations and better understand how these species establish or decline within the state. Avery also enjoys assisting others with bird identification through iNaturalist and online birding communities.
He currently serves as an eBird reviewer for Orange and Seminole Counties and helps moderate the Florida Birding Discord.
