Careers at American Birding Guides

American Birding Guides is a nationwide network of local birding and bird-photography guides helping travelers experience North America’s birds with confidence and care. Founded in 2018, ABG has grown from a single guide in Arizona to nearly one hundred guides across the United States. Our mission is simple: to connect people with birds through meaningful, locally led experiences.

Guiding with ABG

Our guides lead private birding and bird-photography outings tailored to each client, from a few hours to multi-day adventures. The work is flexible and part-time, well suited to experienced birders who enjoy sharing their knowledge and creating high-quality field experiences.

ABG offers a professional guiding opportunity without requiring you to start your own business or commit to a full-time travel schedule. We handle marketing, bookings, insurance, and payments so you can focus on guiding.

What We Look For

We’re seeking skilled, personable birders who know their regions well and enjoy working with people of all experience levels. Reliability, responsiveness, and a welcoming field presence matter as much as identification skill. Guides operate as independent contractors, provide their own optics, field gear, and transportation, and maintain full flexibility to set their availability.

Join the Team

American Birding Guides operates nationwide with a growing community of dedicated local guides. If you live in a bird-rich area and want to share it with others through professional, locally led guiding, we’d love to hear from you.

Please email admin@americanbirdingguides.com with your résumé, a short note describing your regional expertise and interest, and three references.
